Resume Pro Tip #5 (Experience)
Experience: No more than 15 years of experience. We all had crummy jobs in high school and in college. Those jobs were usually terrible, so bad, that we may be tempted to include them in our resume 20 years later so that we get the credit we deserve. Don’t do it. It’s way too much information that is probably not relevant to the position you are applying for. This can also be a way for employers to guess your age and nobody needs to know that. We once had a Controller candidate list her high school job with Hot Dog On a Stick on her resume. We are sure she makes a mean lemonade but this early experience will not help her leverage into her next position. Conversely, you don’t want to only have the last two years listed because they are in the same field as the position you are aspiring for. Interviewers like to see the progression of numerous jobs that make up a career path as long as its one career path.
