Five questions to help you in your executive search (and one insider tip!)
Finding your next executive, CEO, CFO, manager, or leader is critical to the success of your organization. When candidates are ready for the responsibilities of an executive position they have developed more than just their technical capabilities and should also have developed a high degree of emotional intelligence. Qualified candidates prepare themselves with talking points to reinforce important company messages that contribute to building a positive culture, but they’re also able to think on their feet during an unplanned conversation topic.
When your candidate comes into the interview they are prepared and ready to answer the common questions. But what questions do you ask to you really get to know them?
Asking questions that are not directly related to their function help you to gauge how a candidate will navigate situations they are not prepared for. Why? They’ll be surprised by these not so common questions, and will demonstrate how (well) they think on their feet.

Ask the executive candidate what leadership style they’re currently learning/practicing or what author/coach they’re currently enjoying. Candidates that are continually growing and evolving will be able to name one or more methodologies, books, or coaches.
